THE ONE STATE SOLUTION

The Opposition Speaks

It would be easy enough to post here samples of the vast literature supporting the Two State Solution written in service to the cynical and deceptive Zionist strategy of maintaining the status quo. But such arguments are transparent political obfuscation written by people whose motives are, to say the least, suspect.

Instead, I have chosen to place here statements by people who are not only decent, intelligent people, but whose commitment to genuine peace are not in doubt. These are the most articulate and convincing arguments for the two state option that I could find. You be the judge.

There is also a link to a list of opposition articles compiled by my friend John Sigler.

One might well wonder how it is that otherwise intelligent and well meaning peope could cling to the chimera of the two state solution - after all, any reasonably intelligent high school student could see the futility of such an idea by merely looking at a decent map. The answer lies in the grip that the mytho-history of Zionism has on Western consciousness (with the considerable help of an extremely powerful and effective propaganda apparatus).

Palestinians who strongly favor the two state solution are motivated by another powerful, though not nearly so pervasive, mythology - the idea of a separate state for Palestinians. This idea is largely the legacy of one of the most unfortunate political leaders in history (unfortunate mostly for his own people), Yasser Arafat. But that particular wish fulfillment fantasy appears to be wearing off, fortunately - the Palestinians, after all, are not stupid, and they are coming to see that with the one state option they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

The tipping point will come when a sufficient number of Israelis realize the same thing. This will take time, but it is the responsibility of all who seek peace and justice and decency in this world to moving the process along as expeditiously as possible. Yes, it is possible. It is certainly necessary, and perhaps inevitable. It is only a question of how much senseless bloodshed and suffering must be endured beforehand.
